The favorable planting conditions combined with consistent precipitation, has resulted in a uniform crop across much of the North Central region. Above normal precipitation from June through early August, along with well-suited temperatures, provided ideal conditions for corn pollination. Pollination is nearly complete across the entire Midwest, except in areas where planting was delayed.
In Minnesota heavy rainfall has caused significant down-out in some fields. The favorable growing season has helped slow grain fill in corn, increasing yield potential, while soybeans will look for moisture during August to extend the pod setting stage. Overall, crop conditions have improved as the growing season has progressed, especially on well drained farms.
